Managing your weight can be hard. Different people need different types of support. Small changes can help.

Eating well, moving more and building healthy habits can improve your health over time.

East Sussex

If you live in East Sussex, there are services that can help you reach a healthy weight. 

One You East Sussex free weight loss services for eligible Surrey residents, including programmes that help people eat well, move more and lose weight:

  • Gloji is a digital weight loss programme with support by phone, in a group, or alongside regular group exercise sessions. 

  • MAN v FAT is the UK’s leading mens football weight loss programme for those who want to lose weight and play sport in a welcoming environment.

  • Health and wellbeing support for people with a learning disability - 12 week programme

Other support available includes:

One to One support 

  • You will meet your health coach on your own. 

  • You can have a session every 2 weeks during the programme 

  • Choose your goals 

  • Bring a supporter if helpful. This could be your family member, carers or supporter 

  • Set goals that fit your life 

Group support 

  • Join a small friendly group 

  • Meet every 2 weeks 

  • Try practical activities 

  • Meet you health coach in between group sessions 

  • Set goals that fit your life

West Sussex

If you live in  West Sussex , there are services that can help you reach a healthy weight.

West Sussex Wellbeing offers a range of options.

If you live or work in West Sussex and have a BMI  of 25+, you can join a 12 week weight loss programme.

Other support varies depending on your local wellbeing hub.

Brighton & Hove

If you live in Brighton and Hove, there are services that can help you reach a healthy weight which offer:

  • 12 weeks of digital support

  • Personal health mentor 

  • Unlimited online gym pass 

  • Weight management groups across Brighton 

  • Dedicated support during pregnancy 

  • Learning Disability support 

  • Partnered programmes with Slimming World and MAN V FAT

Surrey

If you live in Surrey, there are services that can help you reach a healthy weight.

One You Surrey

One You Surrey offer free weight loss services for eligible Surrey residents, including programmes that help people eat well, move more and lose weight:

    • Flexible digital weight loss programme 

    • Digital and group support 

    • Digital and 1:1 

    • Eligibility: Men aged 18+ with a BMI of 27.5 or higher 

    • 14 weeks free innovative MAN V FAT Football programme 

    • Attend a local group for 12 weeks 

    • Access digital resources

Healthy Surrey

Healthy Surrey helps people find self-care information, as well as signposting to local services available to Surrey residents.

You don't need a referral. There is lots of information and support to help you get started, with information on:

  • Eating well and moving more 

  • Improving your wellbeing 

  • Managing your weight 

  • Reducing your risk of developing diseases 

Be Your Best Surrey

Be Your Best Surrey provides support to families with children aged 5-17 years.

Find information on:

  • Eating healthily on a budget 

  • Planning meals - even for fussy eaters 

  • Finding ways to be more active 

  • Swapping unhealthy habits for healthier ones

GP referral programmes for weight loss

NHS digital weight management programme

This programme is available for people who mee the following criteria: 

  • You are age 18 or over 

  • You have a BMI of 30 or more. The BMI threshold is 27.5 for people from black, Asian, and ethnic minority backgrounds 

  • and have a diagnosis of diabetes (type 1 or 2), high blood pressure, or both 

You will need regular access to the internet, using a smartphone or computer.

Referral is through GPs or community pharmacies only. If you think you are eligible please contact your GP or community pharmacy to discuss.

Support includes:

  • Free 12 week online programme 

  • Choice of weight management plan that works for you 

  • Each plan provides: 

  • Recipes 

  • Nutritional advice 

  • Wellbeing support

NHS Type 2 diabetes path to remission programme 

This programme is a low calorie, total diet replacement treatment programme, available for people who meet the following criteria: 

  • Have a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes within the last 6 years 

  • And have a BMI over 27. The BMI threshold is 25 for people from black, Asian, and ethnic minority backgrounds 

Referral is through your GP only. If you think you are eligible please contact your GP to discuss.

Healthier You NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme 

This programme is for people who have been identified as being at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. You may be eligible if: 

  • You have had a blood sugar test showing you are at risk of type 2 diabetes. This could be a HbA1c result between 42 and 47.9 mmol/mol 

  • Or, you have had a fasting blood sugar result between 5.5 and 6.9 mmol/l within the last 24 months 

  • You must be able to partake in light to moderate physical activity 

Exclusions: 

  • Have a current diagnosis of Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. 

  • Are pregnant (unless entering via gestational diabetes pathways). 

  • Have an active eating disorder. 

  • Have undergone bariatric surgery in the last 2 years. 

  • Are recorded as having moderate or severe frailty 

If you are at risk of type 2 diabetes, your GP practice may refer you to the Healthier You NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme.

The support includes:

  • 9-month programme 

  • Choice of face to face group sessions or digital service 

  • Face to face groups option: 

    • Personalised support to manage your weight 

    • Support to eat healthier 

    • Support to be more active 

  • Digital option using digital tools such as wearable technologies to: 

    • Monitor levels of exercise 

    • Access health coaches 

    • Access online peer support groups 

    • Set and monitor goals online

NHS Health Checks

An NHS Health Check is a free check-up for people aged 40 to 74. It can help find signs of health problems early.

It checks your risk of:

  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • Kidney disease
  • Stroke

If you are aged 40 to 74, you may be invited for an NHS Health Check. This is for people who do not already have certain health conditions.

These are done every five years. They include

  • Checking your height and weight
  • Checking your blood pressure
  • Checking your cholesterol
