Safeguarding in Surrey and Sussex

The ICB employs Designated Professionals for adult safeguarding, children’s safeguarding, looked after children, and child death review to ensure the organisation meets its statutory responsibilities and maintains high professional standards.

The team provides strategic leadership, specialist advice and statutory safeguarding expertise across Surrey and Sussex. The team includes Designated Professionals (nurses and doctors), Named GP as for adult safeguarding, children’s safeguarding, looked after children, and child death review.

The Surrey and Sussex safeguarding team:

  • provide expert safeguarding leadership to the ICB, commissioned services and system partners.
  • support statutory partnerships and boards for both children and adults.
  • oversee the health contribution to all statutory and non‑statutory safeguarding reviews, including: 
    • Safeguarding Adult Reviews
    • Domestic Abuse‑Related Death Reviews
    • Rapid Reviews
    • Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews
  • identify safeguarding risks, emerging issues and examples of good practice across the health and care system, ensuring that learning leads to improved practice and quality of care.
  • support Children in Care (Looked After Children) by:
    • providing Designated Nurses and Doctors for Children in Care.
    • providing strategic advice to service planners and commissioners for Children in Care.
    • supporting the ICB to meet its responsibilities to improve the health and wellbeing of Children in Care and young people.
