A child or young person has special educational needs and disabilities if they have a learning difficulty and/or a disability that means they need special health and education support, we shorten this to SEND.
The SEND Code of Practice 2014 and the Children and Families Act 2014 gives guidance to health and social care, education and local authorities to make sure that children and young people with SEND are properly supported.
We want to help to reduce health inequalities and improve the health outcomes for children and young people with SEND. Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) can be requested, through the Local Authority, if additional health, care and education support is required.
Support for children who have special educational needs and disabilities, and their families.
Support is provided by local authorities across Surrey and Sussex. This is called the ‘Local Offer’. To find out more about SEND services in our area, please see the following links:

SEND inspections
An important part of a SEND inspection process is hearing from children, young people and their families about their experiences of SEND services.
During the SEND inspection, inspectors will want to know about the help and support that children and young people with SEND get. A parent carer and children and young people survey will be shared with local residents.
Guides for parents, carers, children and young people about inspections of local services for children and young people with SEND are available on the gov.uk website.
