A new video celebrating the impact of Surrey's Mental Health Investment Fund (MHIF) on local people is now available to watch.

Established in 2022, the MHIF is a Surrey-wide, all-age programme created by Surrey County Council and Surrey Heartlands Integrated Care Board (now NHS Surrey and Sussex Integrated Care Board).

The fund supports projects and programmes aimed at supporting people through counselling, peer support, community outreach, nature-based wellbeing initiatives, educational programmes and targeted support for vulnerable groups.

It is part of delivery of Priority Two of Surrey's Health and Wellbeing Strategy, which focuses on prevention, removing barriers and helping people take proactive steps to improve their emotional health and wellbeing.

The MHIF Impact Day brought together partners, project teams, senior leaders, community organisations and people with lived experience to celebrate the programme and the difference it has made across Surrey. Through interviews and personal reflections, the video shares the experiences of those involved in delivering and benefiting from MHIF-funded projects, highlighting the value of prevention, early intervention and community-based mental health support.

Dr Charlotte Canniff, Joint Chief Medical Officer for NHS Surrey and Sussex Integrated Care Board, said:

The Mental Health Investment Fund was created to support innovative approaches that help people improve their emotional health and wellbeing before they reach crisis point.

The fund has supported a wide range of projects in communities across Surrey, helping people build connections, reduce isolation and access support in ways that work for them.

This video captures the experiences of the people behind those projects and the residents whose lives have been positively affected. It is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when organisations work together to improve mental health and wellbeing.

As part of Surrey's No One Left Behind agenda, the MHIF has funded 24 projects delivered by voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations across the county. Independent evaluation has highlighted the programme's success in reaching priority populations, improving wellbeing, strengthening community resilience and helping to create sustainable long-term benefits.

The wider focus on mental health in Surrey was also highlighted recently, when Community Foundation for Surrey hosted the 2026 Surrey Symposium on Mental Health in Young People, bringing together VCSE organisations, public sector partners and donors to share learning, strengthen connections and explore how support for young people's mental health can be improved across Surrey. The symposium also highlighted the Mental Health Scale-Up Fund, which provides five-year grants to help organisations develop and expand vital mental health services for young people across Surrey.
